The VTCT Level 1 Extended Award in Hair and Beauty Skills (VRQ)

Is a vocationally related qualification that will prepare you to progress to the next level of vocational learning in the hair and beauty sector. This qualification is designed for learners aged 14 years or older. Entry to this course can be via previous attainment at entry level 3 or via a successful interview.

This is a vocationally related qualification and includes all the required elements to develop your practical hair and beauty skills including a mandatory unit in creating a hair and beauty image using colour. Through this unit you will develop your skills to carry out and complete a total look using make up, hair design, temporary colour and nail art application, on a real person. You will be able to design your image using a mood board to collect ideas. You will be able to work safely throughout, including being able to identify any factors that may change or stop the process. You will complete an evaluation of your finished design.

You will also have the opportunity to further develop your understanding and skills by selecting optional units including: hand and nail care, foot and toenail care, make-up application, blow-drying hair, curl winding skills, shampooing and conditioning hair, plaiting hair, colouring hair using temporary colour.

Through the optional units in this qualification you will also have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant hair and beauty products, health and safety, customer services and designing retail display areas.
